Winter Break Assignments

AP Journal Assignment – Winter Break
I.Complete 10 pages about your concentration. These are not thumbnails, but just a way to work within your concentration so you can develop a language of about your concept. Due: Wednesday, January 5th
You must have the following on these pages:
·         4 Artist Reference (at least 2 have to be different artists) – include images and a source for the artist.
·         4 different principles of design – you must reference these in the page. Make sure I know you know how to use these. Here’s a list:
                                ____balance         ____pattern
                                ____emphasis      ____rhythm
                                ____variety           ____movement
                                ____harmony/unity
·         3 Different Brainstorms of your concentration. You can use the whole concentration statement and brainstorm it 3 times, or use 3 different ideas from your concentration.  A brainstorm should include at least ten items that relate to the main idea. For Brainstorming ideas, use the SCAMPER method (developed by Alex Osborne):
o   Substitute: What could be used or done instead? What could be different or better?
o   Combine: What could be combined? What would work well together? What can be forced together?
o   Adapt: What can be adjusted to suit a purpose or condition? How can something be made to fit?
o   Maginify, Minimize, Modify: What if you changed the form or quality? Could it be made larger, greater, or stronger? Could it be made slower, smaller, or lighter?
o   Put it to other uses:  How could it be used for a different purpose? What are new ways to apply it?
o   Eliminate: What could subtract or take away? What could you do without?
o   Reverse: What would you have left if itwere reversed or turned around? Could you change the parts, orders, order, layout, or sequence?
·         Activated Backgrounds.
·         Include visual imagery – take photos, figure out how to draw from life and find appropriate materials.
II. Next CRITIQUE DAY is Monday, January 10th. You need to have at least two new pieces by this day – not ideas or the shell of a beginning – but two actual pieces. Plan! Plan! PLAN!
